Guest Room Redo + New BOTANICA Size

Guest Room Redo + New BOTANICA Size

Back in March, my mother-in-law came to visit to watch the kids over spring break and because of COVID-19, she ended up getting stuck at our house for over SIX weeks. She was a trooper to live with us and our crazy kiddos for that long. Luckily, our house’s original master bedroom (which became the guest room once we renovated) has an en suite bathroom and shower so she did not have to share with the kiddos. However, the room had kind of become the place we put things that didn’t have a home yet - so it was less than inspiring or cozy, and had little to no storage. After she left, I was motivated to clean it out and give it a design refresh.

I started with selling our old furniture. I so wish I had a before picture, but unfortunately I forgot to snap one, so hopefully if use your imagination you can visualize it. The room is about 13x15 feet and had an oversized dark cherry wood sleigh bed and 42” tall vanity and mirror…furniture that my husband bought back in his single days. We had white metal file cabinets serving as the “nightstands” and the side of the bed was pushed up against one wall.

The first thing I knew I wanted to do was to turn the bed 90 degrees so that the headboard was centered on the wall opposite the door. I am not the biggest fan of beds in front of windows, but it was a better option than the foot of the bed being away from the doorway.

My favorite part of this re-do was re-imagining a larger size frame and matting for my hand-carved Botanica tiles. I love the way this larger frame look turned out. I think they add to the quiet, peaceful and airy look of the entire room.

The leopard bolster is by Erika M Powell Textiles. Her textiles have been on my list for quite some time and I’m thrilled to have made my first purchase for this guest room.

I found the nightstands on Amazon and for the amount of storage and overall look, they were really inexpensive. I did have to spend about 6 hours putting them together which was NOT fun, but I saved a ton of money. I was not looking to spend a ton of money on these as they are used so infrequently.
