The Fleur Collection

The Fleur Collection

2020 seems to be the year of the flower for me. At the beginning of each year, I try to sit down and write out some big picture goals for the next twelve months. I was at the studio particularly early one Friday morning in January and drew a sketch of anemones inside a wavy bowl. From that sketch, I created hand-carved wavy bowls, Botanica tiles, and even put a dramatic floral mural up in my office/studio.

Creativity is a funny thing, sometimes an idea just comes to me suddenly and so clearly. Even though this isn’t the first year I have experimented with floral designs (I had a few flower collections in 2018 and 2019 on heart-shaped ring dishes and appetizer plates) it feels like this is the first year my flower designs have permeated into a wider variety of products.

My newest collection, Fleur, consisting of the Fleur necklace and the Fleur ring dish are like an encore to my Botanica Collection. Taking my favorite floral designs from my Anemone and Peony drawings, I created four different flower designs to choose from for the ring dishes. To create the fleur necklace, I had four tiny rubber stamps created from my original drawings and produced several prototypes with it. We landed on a freshly opening peony with a long stem and a few leaves. I wanted to capture the beauty of a single stem as the petals begin to open up, revealing the exquisite layers inside. To me, this is when the peony is really showing off.

I am so excited about this sweet little collection and I hope these flowers give you a little of what they give me: a glimmer of hope in a world that feels heavy, full of (much-needed!) change and a reminder that His mercies are new every morning, like the sun rises every day.

May the Lord make his face shine on you
    and be gracious to you;
May the Lord turn his face toward you
    and give you peace.
