Made of high fired stoneware clay and handcrafted from start to finish in my studio. They are then cleaned, bisque fired, glazed, glaze-fired, and then hand-painted with 22K gold luster and fired for a third and final firing to melt and fuse the gold to the vitrified ceramic surface.
An instant classic, these beauties represent something very personal to me. My sister, Rebecca, at only 46 years old, suffered from a massive heart attack and almost lost her life. Over the last few years, she has worked diligently to build up her heart’s strength and get back to a healthy place. When I asked her if she was cool with me sharing her story in this way, she said it was important for people to realize that you don’t have to look unhealthy to be unhealthy (my sister has always been petite and thin). Her heart attack came with no warning and if it hadn’t been for the ambulance and the ER doctors who had to revive her, she would not have made it that day.
These studs and necklace are dedicated to her, in honor of her unwavering commitment to her family to take care of herself, and to “not go backwards, dammit!” Love you, Becky.
